My sweet boy, Rupert’s 4th doggie birthday was January 1st so of course, I had to throw him a doggie birthday party and bake him a special dog birthday cake!
If your dog is anything like mine then they love a good treat. All we have to do is say the “b-word” (bone) and both dog’s ears perk up. They know exactly what that word means and they both turn around in circles and run down the stairs to get their treat when we say the word. Needless to say when they saw this cake their tails started wagging!
Rupert’s birthday party was complete with this yummy cake, party hats, and some special birthday gifts. He loved it!
This recipe calls for all sort of yummy ingredients that your pupper will love. I used some store bought bones for the decorations on top of the cake. For the crumbled cake around the bottom, I reserved a small amount of the batter when pouring the batter into the pans and used it to bake a small cupcake which I crumbled around the bottom of the cake.
You might notice that this recipe doesn’t call for any sort of leavening. I wanted to make sure all the ingredients were safe for our four-legged friends, and while most of the things I read on the internet said baking powder and baking soda is only toxic to dogs in large amounts, I don’t think there is any point in risking it. The cake still comes out just fine without it. It doesn’t really rise and makes for a dense cake but I didn’t receive any complaints from either of my dogs so I think we’re okay. I mean…they drink out of the toilet sometimes…they’re not hard to please. Ha.
I researched all ingredients in this recipe to be sure they were safe for doggos to eat. However, I am not a veterinarian. Please please please consult your veterinarian before using this recipe if you believe your pupper might have any sort of allergy or reaction. We want to keep all the furbabies safe.
Happy 4th Birthday to my sweet, Rupert! And happy birthday to your sweet doggo as well! Please let me know how your pup liked the cake in the comments below!
